With a bit of rain, Hemipholiota populnea (Destructive pholiota) are emerging from cottonwood snags along the Bitterroot River, Montana. These fungi species fruits with an impressive mushroom, and are typically found on stumps and trunks of Populus sp. and other deciduous trees. The species has a cosmopolitain distribution across North America and Europe.
